The WMC Adventure Begins | Wednesday, March 10th
After checking into our hotel, we decided to grab a quick bite to eat before hitting the events. Jerry’s Deli is now officially off our list of places to eat when in a hurry—crap service and crap food. We saw 3 sets of people dine and dash just because they were tired of waiting for their check. Should have just ordered a milkshake. Next time we’ll try Shake Shack instead when we want a quick bite.
Then it was off to the Beach Plaza Hotel for a quick warm up at the Change of Pace party. Music was good but the acoustics were a little high on the treble. Forgot my earplugs, which I am still regretting right now. I will not make that same mistake tomorrow. We didn’t arrive until close to 9pm and the party had started around noon so one could expect some people that had been seriously drinking for a while and a little out of sorts. The MC was a little much on the PA. Good tunes though, and a great introduction to the great weather.
Around 10:30 pm it was off to Sobe Live for the Large Music party, a famously long-running party during WMC. Sobe Live is normally a hip hop club, and promised to have one of the “best soundsystems in South Beach”. The bass was certainly loud, with the mids getting totally drowned out. It was at this point that I was really cursing myself for not having my Ear Love earplugs.
Derek Dunbar was on the decks when we arrived, and while I was digging what he was playing it certainly wasn’t the Mushroom Jazz set that was promised. I would say that the stand-out set of the evening was Sonny Fodera who presented a nice eclectic mix of deep and jackin house tunes.
Tomorrow’s weather speaks of rain so it may be a late start.
